Tinnitus is the hearing of sound when no external sound is present. While the noise is usually described as ringing, it can also sound like a clicking, hissing or roaring. The volume of the sound ranges from soft to loud. Tinnitus is usually caused due to constant exposure to loud noise. The overexposure to loud sounds results in damage of the cells that are located in the inner ear, which induces the condition. It is more likely that this condition will develop in people who often go to concerts and nightclubs, work at construction sites, use guns, and ride a motorcycle. You should also know that in more severe cases, the overexposure to loud noises can lead to hearing loss.

Even though loud noises are the biggest cause for the development of tinnitus, there are also other different causes such as:

1.Blockages in the ear caused by wax build-up or ear infection.
2.Regular use of drugs like aspirin, anti-inflammatories, sedatives, and antidepressants.
3.Neck or head injuries.
4.The natural aging process
5.Menier’s disease.
6.Otosclerosis.

More than 50 million people suffer from tinnitus just in the USA. Most of them are trying to reduce the symptoms by taking a large amount of medications which can cause a variety of side-effects that can be very harmful to the health. A far better solution is to try some of the alternative presented below.

1.   Acupuncture

Many studies have confirmed the ability of acupuncture  to cure tinnitus. Every acupuncturist who has studied Traditional Chinese Medicine knows how to differentiate the treatment for different types of tinnitus. Acupuncturists are usually focused on the points on the scalp or ear during the treatment. A basic acupuncture treatment commonly lasts between 10 and 15 sessions.

2.   Gingko Biloba

Gingko Biloba is herbal cure which has the ability to improve blood flow in the body, and especially in the brain and head. This makes gingko effective in treating tinnitus that is caused by circulatory problems. It is recommended to take 240 mg of a standardized Gingko capsule every day in order to experience most of its benefits. When the symptoms go away, you should reduce your dosage to 40-60 mg daily.

3.   Eustachian Tube Drainage

This is a technique that is used to reduce congestion in the tube located behind your ear drum by draining the fluid in your ear. This process helps treat tinnitus that is caused by congestion of the ears, nose, or throat. To perform this technique, make sure that your hands are clean. Then, open your mouth and put your index finger on your back molars on one side. Behind these molars is a curved bone covered in the flesh (this is the hinge that allows us to open and close the jaw).

Keep going further back until you find a stringy tendon. You can find the Eustachian tube just beyond that tendon. Gently stroke this tube from side to side for about 15 to 20 seconds. Repeat the same on the other side. If you perform this every day for a week, you will relieve the symptoms for sure.

4.   Zinc Supplements

Many studies have found that zinc reduces the tinnitus symptoms. It is recommended to consume between 90 and 150 mg of zinc lozenges for a period of 3-6 months.

5.   Vitamin B12

Most people who suffer from tinnitus also have vitamin B12 deficiency. So, it is good to eat more eggs, sardines, salmon, grass-fed beef, non-fat yogurt, reduced-fat milk, and cheese.
