How to Do a Detox Bath to Flush Out Toxins and Heavy Metals from Your Body
One of the easiest healing therapies out there is detox-bath which detoxifies the body from toxins. Nowadays, our bodies are prone to more toxins than ever. They are present in the air, food, medications, and water. They are harmful for our well being as they can cause irritation, and harm the body.
Detoxification is a method for removal and metabolism of toxins and other dangerous compounds. In fact, this is a natural process in the body which takes place without us even knowing it. Nonetheless, the capacity of the body for detoxification is not endless.
The more toxins we are exposed to, the harder it is for the body to eliminate them properly. The number of toxins that can harm our bodies is large. For example, water is often contaminated with pollutants, the shampoos and soaps we use on a daily basis are filled with chemicals, toothpaste contains fluoride, genetically modified foods contain pesticides, etc.
Unfortunately, the exposure to toxic substances is on the increases. Namely, 2100 toxins, including pesticides, herbicides, PCBs, and medications have been found in the water supply, 80000 metric tons of carcinogens are released in the air annually in North America, more than 80% of the food is genetically modified, according to the EPA, the average US citizen has residues from more than 400 toxic compounds in their body, 82000 chemicals are used in US today, but only a fourth have been tested for toxicity.
Although it is impossible to make our toxin exposure equal to zero, unnecessary exposure can be reduced as well as the body’s capability of eliminating toxins can be improved. One way is to practice detox-baths which can boost the health and strengthen the immunity and prevent the occurrence of diseases.
When there is a toxic deposit in our body, we get sick. Hence, according to the functional medicine expert, Dr. Mark Hyman, the problems with detoxification are the root of illnesses. When people feel lousy, it is likely that they are toxic. The liver is in charge of removing toxins and metabolic waste from the body by converting them to water-soluble compounds.
These compounds are eliminated through urine. The waste products which aren’t water-soluble are transformed by the liver and excreted in the bile which is then transported to the intestines and it is removed from the body through the bowels.
Toxins that haven’t been removed in this way are eliminated through sweating. Another way to remove toxins from your body, is to practice detoxification baths consisted of Epsom salt which is known to draw out toxins, but it holds numerous other benefits like less stress, improved concentration and sleep, proper function of the nerves and muscles, prevented artery hardening and blood clotting, increased insulin effectiveness, reduced inflammation, relief of pain and muscle cramps, improved oxygen use, removal of toxins, improved absorption of nutrients, alleviation of migraines, etc.
Preparation of the bath:
Add 5 to 10 drops of essential oil of your choosing to 2 cups of Epsom salt and then add this mixture to a tub full of water. If your bath water isn’t filtered, add 1 cup of baking soda to neutralize chemicals, primarily chlorine, and to increase the absorption of minerals.
Then, immerse yourself in the water and close your eyes. Do some breathing exercise and soak for 20 minutes. Then, you can get out of the tub and shower with cool water. Don’t use harsh soaps or shampoos as they will enter your bloodstream through your open pores.
Once your body is dried, apply body butter, like shea butter or coconut oil and aluminum-free deodorant. Avoid lotions with perfumes, chemicals, and dyes. Also, don’t eat immediately after a detox-bath, but drink filtered water before and after. Rest after the bath.
