Beat Colds & Flu With This Simple Ginger Tea
I learned of this recipe years ago from a friend who got it from her Chinese Grandmother and it’s never failed me. Drink it at the first sniffle and you’ll be amazed at the potency of these simple ingredients. I’ve beat winter colds and greatly reduced my suffering from the flu using this 3 ingredient tea anyone can make in a few minutes.
Ginger has been found to have numerous therapeutic benefits including the treatment of nausea caused by seasickness, morning sickness and chemotherapy. A 2012 review of the scientific literature found that ginger appears to be promising for cancer prevention. This is one powerful root!
One single lemon will provide as much as 80% of your daily ration of vitamin C. Lemon juice is highly charged with Flavonoids and Antioxidants and helps to boost your body’s production of white blood cells. These are the cells which form part of your immune system and that are called into action to fight off things like the common cold.
In a recent study raw honey has shown that it can help to reduce the duration of the common cold by as much as two days. The research, which was carried out at the medical science division of Jahrom University in Iran, involved 60 subjects who were given various traditional cold treatments. 30 of the 60 however, were also given honey – 2 ounces per day. The identity of those given the honey was kept secret from the researchers themselves. The results were that those subjects who were given honey showed a significant shortening in the duration of their infection.
3 Ingredient Dragon Slayer Ginger Tea
1) Ginger Root: about 2″ portion of root. Shave off outer skin with the back of a teaspoon and slice into thin rounds about the thickness of a quarter. If that’s too much work, forget peeling and leave the skin on.
2) Raw Honey: to taste but at least 2 overflowing tablespoons. You can add more honey to taste.
3) Organic Lemons: juice of 2 full lemons. If you are really feeling crappy, buy the organic lemon juice at your local health food store but fresh is really best.
Boil about a 1/2 quart of water or enough to fill a medium pot 3/4 full. Turn off the heat and drop in the raw ginger and cover pot and steep for 15 minutes. Add lemon and honey to the pot AFTER you are finished simmering ginger and after the liquid cools to lukewarm temp but still hot enough to dissolve the honey. Strain it into your cup or just pour it off leaving the ginger behind. When you want more, just heat it back up-I leave the pot on the stove all day and heat up when needed so I only need to make it once a day. Sometimes I’ll stir in a teaspoon of cinnamon which is an effective antiviral and antibiotic and can help relieve a cough and lower fever. Note: if you are making a single cup, just pour the steeped liquid into a cup, squeeze 1 lemon in and add honey to taste.
You should also get some rest and make yourself some chicken soup with some added miso and finely chopped garlic. Chicken soup acts as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting the movement of neutrophils — immune system cells that participate in the body’s inflammatory response. It also speeds up the movement of mucus, possibly helping relieve congestion and limiting the amount of time viruses are in contact with the nose lining.
